These are perfect for holding loose and bagged tea. I purchased cute die-cut chalkboard labels to put on them and they look adorable! So far my teas are still wonderfully fresh because of a plastic seal inside, but I don't know how that will compare to the 1-2 year Teavana tea cans with plastic inserts. Though my teas are long gone within a few months (days for my Teavana blends) so I don't know if I'll ever be able to comment on that specifically. For the price they are great, I'm really happy with them. My only gripe (minus 1 star) is that the thin metal dents easily but I expected that for the price, I'm glad I have a few extra replacements since I know some are bound to suffer some nasty drops resulting in deep and ugly dents. I'm not exactly graceful when making my early morning tea brews. ;)
